 Obertauern

Until recently very few UK tour operators offered package deals here however, the year I went to Obertauern we stayed for 3 nights on a long weekend break which we organized ourselves.

The transfer from Salzburg airport was only about a 1 hour by taxi (organized by the hotel).

Obertuaern is a high altitude resort with no shortage of snow however it can suffer from the wind and whilst we were here we were greeted with extreme windy blizzard conditions which carried on into the night howling around the hotel. Thankfully the wind was gone by the morning and we able to enjoy great skiing with sunshine and blue skies. There are many runs to keep you occupied for a week and we managed to ski most in the 3 days we were here.

There are also plenty of bars to enjoy Apres ski including the very popular outdoor umbrella bars (a familiar site in Austria and Italy). Head for the Latsch’n Alm and Lürzer Alm bars for the best party atmosphere.

Date Visited: March 2005.

Rating: 7/10.

Top tip: The lift pass offices only accepted cash in 2005 so don’t rely on the plastic. However this may have changed since.
